Description
A remarkable silver rupee from the treasury of one of the most opulent rulers in history — Mir Usman Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VII, the last Nizam of Hyderabad, who ruled between 1911 and 1948 and was reputed to be the richest man in the world, with a fortune estimated at $2 billion in the early 1940s — equivalent to 2% of the entire US economy. The obverse features the iconic Char Minar (Four Minarets) gateway with the Urdu legend “Asaf Jah Bahadur”, while the reverse carries exquisite floral calligraphy. Struck at the Hyderabad Mint, this coin is a rare and prized collectible representing the last independent princely state coinage before the integration of Hyderabad into the Indian Union in 1948.
