Description
A charming bundle of coins from one of the most significant currency reforms in modern Indian history — in 1955, India adopted the metric system for coinage, and from 1957 to 1964 these small denomination coins were called “Naya Paisa” (New Paisa), part of “The Decimal Series.” On 1 June 1964, the term “Naya” was dropped, and the coin became simply “One Paisa.” The obverse of these coins features the iconic Ashoka Lion Capital with the country name in Hindi and English, while the reverse displays the face value and year. Both the Naya Paisa and Paisa coins were officially demonetized on 30 June 2011. This bundle of 5 mixed-year coins (1957–1981) is a wonderful nostalgic piece for collectors and a great budget-friendly entry into Republic India numismatics. Disclaimer — Mixed years and metal types; any 5 coins sent from the available lot.
