Description

A magnificent relic from the reign of one of India’s most powerful emperors — this silver rupee was struck at the Surat Mint during the reign of Aurangzeb Alamgir (1658–1707 AD), whose name in Persian meant “Ornament of the Throne and Conqueror of the World.” The obverse carries the celebrated “Badar-e-munir” couplet — Sikka zad dar jahan chu badre munir, Shah Aurangzeb Alamgir — meaning “Struck money through the world like the shining moon, Shah Aurangzeb Alamgir”, while the reverse bears the mint name Surat with the regnal year. Struck on a large flan with bold, well-struck legends, this coin is an increasingly scarce piece of Mughal numismatic heritage. Disclaimer — Any one coin will be sent from the available lot.
